    EMAIL GROUP

The Benambra, Dinner Plain, Omeo Landcare Group formed in 2009 when the three separate groups amalgamated into one.

The group's focus is to help preserve and maintain our unique alpine / high country environment, whilst encouraging and establishing eco friendly practices in the area. We believe helping to maintain what happens at the top of the mountain, may help those further down the mountain.

Key aims are to bring about awareness to issues, such as weeds, erosion, water quality, and pest problems. Along with helping to promote, upgrade and maintain public access areas such as walking and biking tracks in the local region.

We hope to implement projects that will benefit the environment, local community and visitors to the area. These projects will be achieved via the participation of volunteer members, the local community, school groups and relevant authorities such as Alpine Shire, Parks Vic and DEPI. The group goal is to complete at least one project per summer.

Bethanga and its surrounds was a gold and copper mining area in 1800s, and as a result the hills surround the town have been cleared of vegetation. This has resulted in soil erosion and nutrient run-off problems.

The Bethanga Landcare Group formed in 1993 and incorporates the catchments of Bethanga Creek and Spring Creek. These top five issues continue to determine the direction and focus of the Bethanga Landcare Group.

    1. Weeds

    2. Pasture management

    3. Tree regeneration/ revegetation

    4. Soil erosion

    5. Roadside management

This group covers the area to the south of Tallangatta township, incorporating the Bryants Gap valley, sections of the Lake Hume foreshore and up to Lockharts Gap Road.

We actively encourage community and individual projects such as gully restoration, pasture improvement, establishment of wildlife corridors, soil biology improvement and biodiversity projects.

The group distributes information on field days/workshops that are held in our region.

We have already made a significant impact on the local environment with many large tree plantings on public and private land and weed control programs.

We have contributed to the protection of native remnant vegetation and work with authorities to develop roadside protection plans and strategies.

The dormant Jarvis Creek Landcare Group has become active again. A recent meeting of Landcarers in the area (near Tallangatta) have formed a new executive committee and begun planning how to invigorate local Landcare and community events. The executive is a mix of newer and more experienced members. We look forward to hearing about their strategic direction for the group.

The Wises Creek Talgarno Landcare Group covers a number of sub-catchments which feed into the Murray River east of Lake Hume. The area nominally starts just past Bellbridge and includes Talgarno, Georges Creek, Wises Creek through to Thologolong, Granya and Bungil.

The group was formed in 1993 and the area covered has expanded considerably in recent years. It is involved in a range of Landcare activities as the area suffers from major gully and creek erosion in some catchments, widespread weed infestations and native vegetation fragmentation.

Our landcare area is composed of farms and hobby farms, holiday blocks, weir frontage, parks and reserves. Many landholders work off-farm, or are lifestyle farmers, commuting to Wodonga or Albury.

We actively encourage community and individual projects such as gully restoration, pasture improvement, establishment of wildlife corridors, soil biology improvement and biodiversity projects. We have a spray unit and a fence post driver for hire and can assist with costs associated with fencing, supply of trees and understorey vegetation by way of professionally prepared funding applications.

We meet three times per year at the Talgarno Public School and work closely with local departmental representatives to give the local landholder the best outcome.

The group distributes information on field days/workshops that are held in our region We have already made a significant impact on the local environment with many large tree plantings on public and private land. We have contributed to the protection of native remnant vegetation and work with authorities to develop roadside protection plans and strategies.

Throughout the year funding opportunities arise and our coordinators will use Expressions of Interest to support funding applications.
